The Message of Special Occasion Candles and Beyond
There are many kinds, shapes and varieties of candles. From holiday candles and special occasion candles to religious candles and more, they all have one thing in common: they’re always made up of two essentials: wick and wax. Sometimes candles are used for decoration or for giving heat, but the primary purpose of candles is to give light.
Light-giving candles have many characteristics you and I should seek to have. Let us think for awhile about some of these good qualities:
Candles are receptive – they accept the light that is given to them. They permit themselves to be molded and used. In order for candles to fulfill their purpose for existing, they sacrifice themselves.
Candles quietly perform their duty, ready to serve all people. Candles shine just as faithfully on a poor man’s table as at a king’s banquet. Religious candles burn on the altar of a cathedral or on the table of a tiny mission house. Candles seek to give forth light in darkness.
Candles enter into people’s moods. At a birthday party special occasion candles are gay and jolly. Holiday candles cast a warm glow during a festive season. At a dinner party, candles enter into the fellowship of friends. In church, candles inspire worship. At a funeral, candles comfort the sorrowing.
Candles have self-control and dignity – unless disturbed, they burn at a steady pace.
Candles are kind and forbearing – they put the best construction on all things about it. Candles cover up the blemishes; make the plain look beautiful, the old look young and the tired appear relaxed. Candles cast a warm glow on everything near it.
